Town Clock of Halifax

A strong symbol of Halifax

The clock tower is one of the strongest symbols of Halifax’s historical richness. It has been inaugurated on October 20, 1803, more than 200 years ago. The clock mechanism never needed to be replaced nor repaired since then.

The duke of Kent

This tower was ordered by Prince Edward, duke of Kent and father of Queen Victoria. The Prince also once was commander in the Nova Scotia and New-Brunswick armed forces. He wanted to offer it to the Halifax’s garrison, so that citizens would always be on time.

Tower

Despite some works and changes done on the tower by the end of the 1900’s, the clock is still working and kept its original movement.
