As you will see along this walk, McGill University had a great influence on the development of Metis as a summer resort.  Elizabeth Savage Martin tells the story of how her great-grandfather Alfred Savage, a Montreal businessman involved in the chemical industry making soaps and oils, first came to Metis with two McGill professors whom you will meet again further up the road.
