Tadoussac

The Tadoussac region was visited by Jacques Cartier in 1535 as he traveled up the Saint Lawrence River. It was also visited by Samuel de Champlain in 1603.

Tadoussac was the first French settlement in North America (north of Florida). It was here, at the junction of the fjord and the river, that a fur trading post once stood.

The village is internationally recognized as part of the highly selective Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World, and it is also the first official member in North America. More than 300,000 visitors come each year to this village of fewer than 1,000 inhabitants.

Tadoussac is a popular tourist destination, mainly for whale watching and the wild beauty of the Saguenay River.

It's a special place where you never get bored, combining interesting historical and architectural heritage, an exceptional location, and vast nature.

You can climb the fjord cliffs on short or long hikes, slide down the dunes to the delight of children, go sea kayaking, cycling, or golfing, watch whales by boat or even on foot, visit the Marine Mammal Interpretation Center, the 1747 Indian Chapel, explore the dunes area, or visit a trading post (Chauvin trading post).

Nestled at the confluence of the majestic Saguenay Fjord and the St. Lawrence Estuary where whales come to play, it’s the meeting place of giants in one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
