Kamouraska

The Lordship of Kamouraska

The establishment of the seigneury of Kamouraska dates back to 1674, but the territory was already inhabited by Indigenous peoples, to whom it owes its name. The word Kamouraska means "Where there are reeds by the water's edge."

Kamouraska

Between the Appalachians and the Saint Lawrence River, Kamouraska is 'a pearl in a blue setting (...), a lookout over infinity,' according to Manon Leroux, who knows the area well. 'Its legends and entire history could fill a hefty book.' Here lived Achille Taché, the famous lord from Anne Hébert's novel, as well as many centenarians (including a doyenne of humanity!) - a sign, no doubt, that life here is so peaceful.

Tourists will enjoy strolling along Leblanc Avenue, this romantic path lined with wild roses that offers unobstructed access to the shore for nearly 1 km. A perfect walk to work up an appetite and fully enjoy the talent of the village's culinary artisans, their good breads and delicate jams, their fine chocolates and smoked fish caught nearby. As Manon Leroux says, Kamouraska is 'a perfect balance between calm and sensory awakening.'
