Cap-Santé

Cap-Santé, where seven families were already recorded in 1677, proudly overlooks the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River, 40 km west of Quebec City.  

The Place de l’Église forms an exceptional ensemble. It includes a monumental church constructed between 1754 and 1763, old wells dating back to 1799, a presbytery (1849), a cemetery, and a splendid small park.

The construction of the church was interrupted during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). It is one of the last churches built under the French regime.

The Vieux-Chemin is worth a visit. It is a narrow, shaded street along the edge of the cliff, dotted with old houses of indefinable charm. This street comes alive especially during special events: 'Rich in Colors' on June 24th and 'Christmas of Yesteryear' at the end of November. Ideally, you should walk down this street.

The descent to the quay offers a magnificent view of the St. Lawrence. In season, you can visit the salmon pass at the mouth of the Jacques-Cartier River.
