This structure (outlined in the photo) is intended to be more modest than the neighboring buildings. It was constructed in the late 1870s / early 1880s.
It first served as an office for the Evening Mail newspaper in Oamaru until 1884. In 1889, the National Mortgage and Agency Company (NMA) took possession and established its operations there. The firm specializes in mortgage loans.
