Bury

Bury has several residences from another era and another culture. This is explained by the origins of the families who immigrated here in 1836 before the municipality was founded in 1855.

Bury residents came from modest backgrounds and from rural parts of England, such as Norfolk, Suffolk and Kent. After 1837, only a few Gaelic families from the Isles of Lewis and Lochbroom came to settle in the area. Forestry and agriculture were — and still are — the mainstays of the economy.
