Background and Description

A colour gradient of blues, greens and yellows form the backdrop for this large-scale mural. Artist Emily Gray invited the public to assist in the creation of this work over the summer of 2022. Layered on top of the colour gradient is a pattern of waves and braided patterns. When the viewer steps back from the mural, the connection between the patterns become visible, including tree roots that appear to be growing out of actual trees in the park, and a heart with a heartbeat pattern.

Once the overall design was completed, artist Emily Gray worked with shashishalhem language teachers and shíshálh youth to select words for inclusion in the mural.
