Voices from Another Time | The Saint‑Luc Cemetery

Voices from Another Time | The Saint-Luc Cemetery
Presented by
Ville de Coaticook

This cemetery, one of the most recently established in the Eastern Townships, opened in 1948 when the Catholic parish of Saint-Luc was founded. Here you’ll find the gravesites of French-speaking people from Barnston, lying near the Protestant pioneers buried in the neighbouring Pleasant View Cemetery. Many of those buried in the Saint-Luc Cemetery were from farming families.

EXPLORE

Our interactive map offered by BaladoDiscovery gives you access to audio files about people who rest in peace in this cemetery. Listen to see…

ON SITE

During your tour, you’ll gaze over Barnston’s beautiful agricultural landscapes, shaped by several generations of people who worked the land.

A guide will accompany you throughout your visit, and two ghosts from the grave will tell their tales from another time: Alméria Lavallée-Chagnon, farmer and mother of a large family, and patriarch Isidore Madore, farmer and father of a family with many offspring!

Together with its photographs and archival documents, this audioguide will help make your visit of the Saint-Luc Cemetery a memorable one. Be sure to travel to the cemetery itself: onsite, you will fully appreciate the beauty and the spirit of the place!

We suggest preloading the tour in your smart device before going to the location (Preload option in the app). You will then be able to access all of the content when you are onsite without Internet. We also recommend the use of earphones to fully enjoy the audio content.

Welcome to the cemetery!
