In August 1938 the Holy Cross Sisters settled in Baie-Comeau with the mission to teach 60 young French and English Catholics. While the city is barely starting to take form, the nuns must set up their classrooms on site before the Saint Joseph school is built.
Due to the significant increase in the number of students, the building had to be expanded several times over the years. The school has also known more than one name and more than one type of clientele. Still today, as the name suggests, the Baie-Comeau High School is the only English language school in the MRC of Manicouagan since 1982.
