Residential school

Construction of a boarding school

In the spring of 1959, the first shovel was given to the construction of a boarding school in Pointe-Bleue. As early as the beginning of the 1960s, the clergy offered courses in catechism, French and history.

The religious welcome children form Pointe-Beleue, but also from Wemotaci and Manawan. For the school year 1960-1961, they are 192, including 99 girls, in residence at Pointe-Bleue. The following year, they were 319, coming from several different reserves.

Residential school

Schooling children is as great sacrifice for parents. Because they have to leave for the whole winter, they have to leave their children for a fulle school year and will not reach Pointe-Bleue until the following summer.

In the late 1980s, the residential school its doors and the Band Council of the Montagnais of Lac Saint-Jean took over education.

In the mid-1990s, the residential school area was completely renovated. The residence houses the kassinu Mamu high school. The sector also includes primary school Amishk, sports center, library and other services of the Band Council connected by interior corridors.
