The Baie-Verte

The exit door of the logs

Located along the St. Lawrence River, Baie-Verte was crucial to logging. It welcomed the first camps of the workers. On its shoreline, the wharf was erected along with the flume, which at the time allowed millions of logs to be transported to cargo ships and barges.

The flume and the wharf are making one

The log fall of the flume was directly on the quay section and greatly facilitated the loading of the various boats and barges.

The loading of the boats

Every three days, timber barges docked at the wharf. These were former landing ships bought after the Second World War by the Anglo and converted to the transport of timber. The loading of some 1,000 cords in bulk took about 6 hours. The trip to Quebec totaled approximately 12 hours.

Transport barges

During the 1960s, Anglo decided to replace its old ships by two huge barges pushed by tugs.

A popular place to relax

Already in 1947, the area of Baie-Verte is popular with the local population and it is still the case to this day.

La Baie-Verte today

The Baie-Verte sector is the cornerstone of Forestville's tourism development. On-site facilities such as camping, walking trails, public beaches, etc. are constantly being improved and enhanced.

Port facilities are no longer used for transporting logs, but they are mainly used for the transport of bulk goods such as sand, stone and salt.

The wharf also receives the CNM Evolution catamaran, the fastest ferry in Quebec, which crosses the St. Lawrence to Rimouski in one hour.
