Village d’antan

Village d'antan by Gilles Bédard

Born in Quebec City in 1954, Gilles Bédard now lives in Baie Saint-Paul. He paints from nature with intense colour. The four years he spent working on Coast Guard boats allowed him to develop his aptitude for capturing the moment and light. Many of his paintings can be found in galleries across Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada.

VILLAGE D'ANTAN - 2008

Sainte-Adèle was founded in 1855. The winner of the first municipal election was Isidore Legaut, church builder. At the time, council decisions were announced on the church steps by a town crier after Sunday mass. Close to 300 families lived in the vicinity of Sainte-Adèle.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the village divided into two sections: Sainte-Adèle-en-Bas and Sainte-Adèle-en-Haut. The dividing line between the village and the parish is still visible on Blondin and Ouimet Street.
