The Corbeil House

At 850 Village Road

This house is a typical early 20th-century construction. It has a half-hipped roof in an asymmetrical arrangement, at one end of the house only. Its balcony and front roof are additions to the original structure.

For many years, it was owned by Albert Corbeil, the village barber, whose wife Alice was the granddaughter of Moïse Bélisle, a farmer near Lac Bouchette. In addition to his barbershop, Albert offered fast food, 10¢ for a hot dog. Skilled with his hands, he made lawn chairs in his woodworking shop behind his house and sold them to seasonal residents who passed by on Village Road on their way to their cottage. He also created the cross for the former St. Elizabeth French School on Watchorn Road.
