1882 map

On this official plan of the parish of Saint-Henri de Mascouche from 1882, we have identified the route of Chemin des Anglais in red. The map tells us that the toponym “chemin des Anglais” was already in use at that time. The white line represents Chemin Sainte-Marie (formerly Route du Rapide).

Drag Race

Did you know that boulevard Raymond, perpendicular to chemin des Anglais, had once been a car racing track? Léopold Raymond, son of the former mayor of Terrebonne Ephraim Raymond, was the owner of the Quebec drag strip, a concept he had brought back from the United States where this kind of competition is called 'Drag Race'. Around 1964, motorists came to run tests with their cars, motorcycles or Stock cars and to participate in timed car races. You now understand why Raymond Boulevard is in a straight line!
