The hospital and the mining camp

Youville Hospital

Take advantage of your stop in front of the Rouyn-Noranda hospital to see just how far healthcare infrastructures have come in the past 100 years!

A park turned promenade

The land in front of Youville Hospital used to be a huge park where children from the twin towns would play. In the late 1960s, construction began on the new hospital to meet the ever-growing needs of the population.

Rouyn's first hospital

This photo, taken in the mid-1920s, shows the Saints-Anges hospital, the city's very first. It was located on the shores of Lake Osisko on Perreault Street East. The building has since been moved across the street, and although it has been greatly transformed, it still exists.

Bush medicine!

Although far from the urban core, rural areas also had access to health care. Here, caretaker Valentine Lupien poses in front of her Destor dispensary. Interestingly, the air ambulance that flew patients between the region and major centers was named in her honor.

A camp at the foot of the mine

Here you can see the Horne mining camp near the mine reception building before it was completely renovated in 1930.
