Located on the banks of the picturesque Detroit River in the charming town of Amherstburg Ontario, Fort Malden opens a fascinating doorway into Canada’s early military history.

As one of the most important strategic locations of the War of 1812, Fort Malden witnessed the meeting between Major General Sir Isaac Brock and Shawnee Chief Tecumseh.

See where they joined forces, listen as heritage interpreters tell the story of how the fort was destroyed and then rebuilt, and learn how American forces occupied the ruins of the fort until 1815 – the longest period of American occupation on Canadian soil.

Find out how Fort Malden was revitalized in the Upper Canadian Rebellion of 1837-38 and the histories of how it served the community before becoming a national historic site, opened for the public to experience and understand the major events that shaped Canada.
