Essex County Steam & Gas Engine Museum

A rich heritage

Text version of audio

The Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum has so much heritage to offer, spreading over the past 150 years. Much of the displayed equipment was found on rural farms, small towns and cities throughout Canada and the USA. The pioneer equipment made it to the rural farmland, making strenuous tasks a thing of the past, allowing man-made contraptions to replace the teams of horses to make the farm work a lot easier.

In the industrial sector, the teams of horses were replaced by a steam engine, which over the next 50 - 75 years, lead the way until the invention of electricity and gasoline engines, thus replacing the massive steam engines of the past.

The Steam and Gas Engine Museum tour is a unique experience to take, and now we are offering the experience with Gilbert Beaulieu, our French tour guide. As a proud member of over 25 years, Gilbert has been involved in all walks of the equipment in the Tractor Building and the Steam Building.

The Museum has a unique collection of tractors, steam engines, “Hit & Miss” engines, a running line shaft display and odds and ends of rare collectables.

To arrange for a French version of a tour, Gilbert requestsa 3 to 5 days notice.
