Saint Michel Cathedral

The Mother Church of the Dioceses

Built starting in 1247 by order of King Saint Louis, the Saint Michel Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Dioceses of Carcassonne and Narbonne.

This southern gothic-style building replaced the Cathedral of Saints Nazarius and Celsus (next to the château Comtal in the City) as the episcopal see of Carcassonne, becoming a cathedral in 1803.
