Head to Vieux-Habitants, Guadeloupe!
The engraved rocks of the Plessis River are a set of petroglyphs dating from the Arawak period, between the 1st and 6th centuries, located in the Plessis River, which separates the communes of Baillif and Vieux-Habitants.
The Arawaks are Caribbean populations originating from the Amazon rainforest.
This is the only petroglyph site in Guadeloupe located on the leeward coast. Its location, around a river basin and near a waterfall, suggests it was a sanctuary dedicated to water.
