Doctor Linklater's House

17, avenue Murdoch

Built in 1927, this sturdy Craftsman Bungalow-style home features a large roof topped by an attic dormer. The prominent porch accentuates its solid appearance. The street-facing gable highlights the hipped roof and its asymmetrical slope. The hipped roof is the part of the gable that slopes downward towards the end.

It was Ernest Linklater, the town's first doctor and recent graduate of the University of Toronto, who had the house built and opened Noranda's first clinic there. His wife, Edna Linklater, was also the first woman to serve as a 'nurse' in the twin towns, although she did not hold the official title.

Historical Significance

Its significance is primarily linked to its history, both because of its age and because of the significance of Dr. Linklater. It is also linked to its architecture, the style of which is well represented and its execution is noteworthy.
