Post office

97, rue Perreault Est

Built in 1934 in the Beaux-Arts style, the Rouyn post office exudes majesty and grandeur, and embodies stability and abundance. Its standard floor plan is typical of buildings from the 1920s and 1930s. Since the early 1980s, the building has housed the 9th Field Engineer Squadron.

Historical Significance

Its historical value lies in its excellent representation of the Beaux-Arts architectural style. Its design is similar to that of many federal buildings of that era. The building's age is also noteworthy, as it clearly illustrates Rouyn's period of development.

The cornice and the tympanum

Note the low cornice that runs all around the building. On the facade, it is interrupted by a tympanum bearing the inscription 'Rouyn'.

The porch

Still on the facade, take a look at  the porch with its entablature, which is supported by pilasters and Doric columns. A Doric column features simple moldings at its top, unlike the Ionic and Corinthian columns, which feature scroll and palm leaf motifs.

Grandeur and stability

Grandeur and stability! Do you feel it too? Even today, this type of institutional building inspires confidence through its presence.
