339 Beach

339 Beach

Behind the hedges, you can make out 339 Beach, built in 1926 by frequent summer visitors Mr. Richard Dawes and Mrs. Olsa Dawes. The Molsons were not the only brewing family to summer in Metis as the Dawes Brewery, best known for their Black Horse Ale, was a significant competitor of Molson’s Brewery at the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately, a tragic event marked the Dawes’ first summer in their new house, resulting in the death of young hotel manager Kenneth MacNider Burke.

Pen Dobson grew up in this house and tells us the rarely discussed story of 339 Beach.
