Principal de la Guardia

Principal de la Guardia

You are facing the building known under the name of Principal de la Guardia, the edifice that housed the quarters of the British guardhouse in the 18th century, a location very representative of the English architecture in Mahon. Its red facade decorated with military motifs is part of the characteristics of the constructions in that era.

The patios closed with glass walls, like the ones decorating the stately houses in the historical center of Mahon, are also part of the characteristics of the constructions in that era.

It is in that place that, in September every year, take place the popular festivals of the Jaleo, horseriders in black and white traditional costumes outdo each other in prowess while the horses jump and dance to the rhythm of a typical music. Have a glimpse in the following video!
