des Fermes Mill

des Fermes Mill

The seigneurial mill was built in 1738 at the foot of des Fermes River's second fall. The flour mill was rebuilt on its ruins and expanded  in 1844. Unfortunately, it was torn down in 1962. This place is rich in history and came back to life following the devastating Irene storm in August 2011. It is a peaceful place where you can take in the des Fermes River.

200th Anniversary Memorial Plaque

The St-Jospeh's 200th anniversary memorial plaque was affixed on the mill's façade. A rumor says that it lies in the hands of a worthy person to protect it.

Right Before the Demolition

This is a last picture of the des Fermes Mill before its demolition. The memorial plaque that had been affixed to its façade in 1938 and unveiled by Minister Albert Rioux during the second century celebrations was still affixed to it. Fortunately, this plaque was spared and is now in a safe place. This mill's site corresponds to the first seigneurial settlement in the Beauce area, since Lord de la Gorgendière had the first flour mill built here. Tradition demanded that an apartment be reserved for him during his visits at the estate.
