Fecteau Sawmill

Fecteau Sawmill

This sawmill belonged to Adrien Fecteau starting in 1875. It was equipped with a wheel for grinding grain.

The mill was destroyed by fire in 1916. Adélard Fecteau rebuilt it and then sold it to his son Odilon in 1924. The latter operated it until 1949. Retired priests later built a cabin on this land.

Fecteau Sawmill (the third)

The third Fecteau sawmill was built in the 1890s by Ludger Fecteau on the Moulin River. It first caught fire around 1960. Lauréat and Renaud Fecteau bought the facilities to operate until 1967, the year the mill was destroyed by fire a second time.

The mill also belonged to the blacksmith Émile Fecteau around 1915. He ran a business specializing in repairs there. Mr. Philippe Bilodeau was his employee.

Fecteau Sawmill (the oldest)

The oldest sawmill in Saint-Alfred was built near Lake Volet by Philémon Fecteau in 1860. It was powered by a water wheel and equipped with buckets. This mill operated until 1920. In addition to sawing wood, cedar shingles were produced there.
