Brief Overview

Enfant Lumière (Child of Light) is a poetic creation, carrying a message of hope in an era marked by uncertainty. The artist explores the fragile bonds between humanity and nature, embodied by the figure of a hybrid child, rising above the water, reaching for the light and survival. Its delicate, organic structure expresses both the vulnerability of modern man and the possibility of profound renewal.

“Like a tree unfolding in the light, the child asks us for a final awakening, a concrete action, a lasting, strong, and true connection to our surroundings.” – Karine Berthiaume

Particular attention is paid to its harmonious integration into the landscape and respecting aquatic wildlife.

Enfant Lumière is part of the redevelopment of Parc des Pionniers and the legacy of Rouyn-Noranda’s 100th anniversary. It invites contemplation and reflection on our relationship with the environment. Visible from almost 360 degrees from the shores, its imposing and luminous silhouette can be admired from afar, offering visitors a new visual and poetic anchor point in the heart of the lake.

Karine Berthiaume

Fascinated by the power of the image, Karine Berthiaume has been exploring, for the past ten years, several art forms related to it. After studying graphic design at the Université du Québec à Montréal, she returned to Abitibi-Témiscamingue, her native region, in 2003, where an attachment and a deep-rootedness towards the territory and the nature that surrounds her took shape and oriented her work and her artistic production.

With urban scenographies set up for the Festival de musique émergente since 2010, she discovered the enormous potential of collective creations. Her works have been shown in exhibition centers and Quebec artists centers and are also part of various collections.
