In 1887, Sainte-Adèle allocated funds of $10,000 to the construction of the railroad. The first train arrived in 1891, a few months after the death of its instigator, Curé Labelle, who never ceased to promote the importance of a railroad connecting Montreal and the Northern Townships.
“We need a railroad in the North, like in the South. Our people are as intelligent and as entrepreneurial as in the South. Give us the same tools, and we will prove it.”
- Curé Labelle
