StoneHaven Le Manoir

Formerly a popular resort and haven of health and wellbeing, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts might restore its former reputation through StoneHaven Le Manoir. 

The building was built in 1908 as the private residence of Montrealer Douglas Lorne McGibbon. Suffering from tuberculosis at the time, the rich businessman chose to settle in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, which was renowned for its fresh air.

When he died in 1927, the luxurious Scottish-inspired private residence was acquired by the Oblates Fathers. It became a health care facility for elderly Priests and a retreat centre for Catholics. After being sold, the building was converted into a spa hotel. 

Today, thanks to Georges Coulombe and Guylaine Brault, the lavish building on 140 acres of land offers an exceptional view of Lac des Sables, having retrieved its charms of yore. 

There’s the hand-picked retro lights, the expertly restored furniture and pieces, not to mention the superb Italian garden and Finnish spa built to replace the former root cellar. 

Magnificently restored with profound respect for its historical legacy by its new owners, the building is answering its fifth calling, before becoming a prestigious hotel destination at the cost of three years of work and several millions of dollars.

One might say that they didn’t hesitate to go to every length to make the hotel one of a kind!
