Mont-Tremblant Station

An iconic tourist destination

“Snow trains” for skiers from Montreal

In 1904, the train arrived in the village of Mont-Tremblant, on the shores of Lac Mercier. With “snow trains” that started carrying skiers from Montreal in 1927 and the industry created by these tourism clients who stayed in local hotels, the station expanded.

Curé Labelle would have been thrilled to see settlers benefit from tourism, after selling them the perks of life outside the city.

“Clear the land to work for yourselves, for your legacy. All you need is yourself, your willpower, your courage. Settlers, you will set yourselves free and achieve a life of ease, while workers live a life of misery with no money to spare. The choice is clear.”
- Curé Labelle

After the train, the car

When development of the road network ultimately led to the decline of railway transportation, the station permanently ceased operations in 1981 and was destroyed. In 1998, a new building was built in the same location using the blueprints of the original building.

A new cultural calling

The building at the heart of the urban centre of Mont-Tremblant, surrounded by the Place de la Gare, is now a hub of culture for vacationers and locals alike. Every year, it exhibits the work of regional artists and painters whom you can meet in person. With a bit of luck, you might even see them in action!
