Labelle Railway Museum and Station

Inhabitants of Chute aux Iroquois came in large numbers to welcome the special train from Montreal during the inauguration of the railroad in 1893. Father Antoine Labelle who had died two years earlier would have been thrilled to be there. 

The arrival of the train significantly contributed to the development of Chute aux Iroquois, renamed Village of Labelle in honour of the priest at the request of the settlers.

The village served as a rail terminal until 1894 before becoming an important railway depot when the railroad was extended to Mont-Laurier. Labelle, also known as “King of the North”, knew what he was talking about when he said the train would help the village.

Now too small and obsolete, the station was replaced in 1924 by a two-storey building. Today, it is home to a railway museum that showcases objects and photos of the railroad era. They provide insight into the history of the “P’tit Train du Nord” and the municipality-turned-motive power depot after the extension of the railroad to Mont-Laurier. 

Several vestiges of the railroad era are still visible, like the caboose located in front of the station and open to visitors. It aims to be a meeting place for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, thanks to its location between mountain and river.

Labour Day to Thanksgiving: Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
