Old Fort Erie

This site is really for Battle of 1812 enthusiasts, as it is in fact a commemorative plaque of a historic confrontation that took place between British and Canadian troops, and American troops during the War of 1812.

This fort, originally built in 1764, first served as a harbour (it was built lower down by the river) and as a relay station to supply and transport passengers to the upper Great Lakes.

During the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783, the fort was used by British troops, Loyalist Rangers and Six Nations warriors.

During the War of 1812, Fort Erie was the site of what is recognized as Canada's bloodiest battle.
