La Prairie Palisade

La Prairie Palisade

La Prairie Palisade

While excavating, archaeologists discover the palisade remains in the soil. Excellently preserved wooden stakes were found perfectly aligned and tightly pressed against each other.

The palisade's original perimeter

Fort La Prairie's original palisade was made of timber piles. The structure was expanded several times over the following decades as the population was growing inside the fortified area.

Its location

The layout of the first palisade of La Prairie is shown on an aerial photo of the current city. Fort La Prairie was only attacked once, on August 11, 1961, in the morning.
