Édouard-Bellefleur House

1950, chemin du Village

Neotraditional-style house

Originally built by Roméo Millette on the former site of the Bellefleur Mill after it was demolished, the house has been renovated in the neotraditional style by successive owners.

The house was built for Édouard Bellefleur, Municipal Counsellor and Deputy Mayor in 1944, who lived with his family on the top floor and ran a grocery store on the ground floor.

Located just across the street, the store was a direct competitor to Wifrid Gratton’s General Store. Not well enough insulated to handle the cold winters at the time, Roméo and Arthur Millette were called upon to install insulating wool to make the building more comfortable.

The house has been used as a post office, a Bank of Montreal service counter, a video store and as art galleries.
