Pigeon House

The history of this house, located at 1953 chemin du Village, is linked to the story of two pioneering families. The building has retained its original typology, including a pitched roof ending in a drip edge. An eave supported by wooden columns protects the balcony.

François-Xavier Pigeon works in Montreal as a stonemason. He married Marie-Pamela Gravelle in 1868 and the couple settled on lot 4, rang 4, in Saint-Adolphe.

His eldest son, Zénon Pigeon, married Délina Roy in 1898. Involved in municipal life, he served as town councillor from 1925 to 1932.  Zénon and Délina left a long family line.

Let's take a look at the family of Hubert Paquette who married Philomène Gravel in 1865. A merchant and innkeeper in Saint-Sauveur, he obtained a concession on Village Road and settled there with his family. After becoming a widower with 7 children to support, he married Hermeline Massie in 1883.

An influential man, he was appointed school commissioner by the Department of Public Instruction in 1887.  Then, in 1893, he was appointed Justice of the Peace by the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec. A farmer and beekeeper, he owned horses, pigs and chickens. In his flourishing garden, he was particularly fond of buckwheat.

Zénon Pigeon's son Rosario married Hubert Paquette's granddaughter Annette in 1933.  They built this house on Chemin du Village.

From this lineage, Annette and Rosario Pigeon's granddaughter Denise Paquette and her husband Maurice Saint-Aubin bought back the family home.
